20: A letter to my naive self.

Dear Nandika,

You must have just finished celebrating your 16th birthday and I know you’re thinking you’ll be moving back to your home country. Hold back on the internal relief because you’re going to be stuck there for two more years, moreover by your own choice.

Don’t panic yet. There’s good news. They aren’t going to be the best two years, but they will teach you how not to do a lot of things. I’ll leave that to you.

I am writing to you to ask just one thing of you. In the process of making mistakes, getting hurt, exploring yourself and restricting yourself, learn to cut yourself some slack. Not everything is your fault, you know.

You have to learn to forgive yourself a little. The rest of it, I trust you to handle. It’s not easy, but we are going to get through it. If you could just remember this one request, it’ll do us both a lot of good.
