Dear Dreamers, you may send this letter to anyone who needs it
(Someone who doesn’t want to be like anyone else)
I hope you don’t mind me saying this, but you can’t be like anyone else. It’s just not going to happen. You were made to be you, and I hope you can accept that.
There is slight difference between not wanting to be like someone else and being yourself. A lot of times, we tend to forget that difference, but it’s there. I wouldn’t say you pretend, but it sure is an act and it is painful to watch you put yourself through that.
You need not feel anxious about sounding or looking like someone, for we all do, resemble someone, at some point or the other, and it’s okay. We do get influenced, but our core remains. I see your core only because I have know you for so long and it’s hidden beneath layers of clothes you actually don’t want to wear, songs you don’t actually listen to and food you don’t enjoy eating.
You put in so much energy into not seeming or being like anyone else, that you have almost ceased to seem like yourself. There is only one you and by that I mean that there are only that many traits, but the combination that you are is unique to you.
Why don’t you wear those trousers that make you feel purposeful, instead of wearing dark-wash jeans to not look like the mob wearing light-wash jeans?
Why don’t you wear your red spectacles that you think are so you, instead of those lens that are nothing but uncomfortable?
Why don’t you just go for a run like you used to, instead of the yoga class your friends prefer?
There is so much to you and no one can simply be you, just like you can’t be anyone else. The more you try not being like someone else, the further you move from your core self. You can’t be someone else even if try really hard, so don’t worry.
The more energy you put into being yourself, the easier it is to not seem like someone else. I hope you can come to see yourself the way I see you and believe me, you’re a view to behold.
